About the Artist

Callie Herzog is a ceramic artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York, creating unique, hand-built, stoneware vessels. After working as a university English teacher, a corporate magazine editor and speechwriter, and an arts fundraiser, Callie returned to ceramics for the joy of quieting her mind by thinking with her hands.

She uses traditional hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. Her tactile, organic vessels are rough and smooth, painted, glazed, unglazed, carved, flawed and scarred, embodying the emotional resonance of her many memories. The vessels’ dynamic forms and surfaces reflect the vibrant diversity of her chosen home, Brooklyn, and of her lived experience

Callie studied ceramics at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana while pursuing a PhD in English literature. Today, her vessels are held in private collections in Atlanta, Boston, Denver, New York, San Diego, and Seattle.
